Kelani Raja Maha Viharaya – An ancient Buddhist Temple located in a northern suburb where Lord Buddha had visited during his lifetime to find tranquility & harmony, to be silent in the presence of the now, in order to meditate and be in the presence of peaceful vibes.
Gangarama Viharaya – An ancient Buddhist Temple of the Reign of the Kotte Kingdom located across the ‘Beira Lake’ of the Capital Colombo. A ‘Pirivena’ education (Buddhist Literacy) program was found to be taking place in this temple, prior to the arrival of the Colonialists who used the waterways & the lake in the surrounding area for purposes of trade and setting up of colonial education, transport, administration etc.
Manning Market – A Dutch styled Marketplace to house stalls to buy & sell fruit, vegetables, spices & other provisions, later maintained by the British administration. This market was connected with tram cars on the roads to Hultfsdorp, Fort and other parts of Colombo during the colonial times when it somehow appeared like a town of a western country at the time.
Colombo Fort – Fort was the Administrative fortification of the Colonial masters of ‘Ceylon’, with the Queen’s House, Parliament, Coastal Defense Establishments, Clock Tower, Banks, General Post Office, Telegraph Office, The Central Bank, & other International Business buildings are located with the distinct architecture of the former Dutch & British administrations. It is still a bustling commercial and banking center of modern day Colombo.
BMICH – Convention Center which stands for Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, initiated by Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike (1st Woman Prime Minister)
Built in the 70’s to enable Sri Lanka’s participation with the International Community in finding ways to cooperate with multilateral countries in finding peace, international cooperation, learning, understanding, research, development, technology & spiritual exchanges,
Independence Square – A public space where a Monument was built in 1948 to mark the occasion of regaining the independence of the reign of power from the previous Colonial Administrators back to locally elected leaders in order to administer the Island.
The Galle Face Green – an esplanade located south of the Port City & adjacent to the Old Parliament is an open air recreation blue-green space to relax especially in the evening. Soft blowing or a comfortable squall is always there to cool off a tiring day of activities. A true blue green space attracts the perceptive enthusiast, especially tired workers, travelers, parents with kids & families to chill.
